Once the CookieYes plugin is installed and activated, follow these simple steps to connect your site to the CookieYes dashboard.
Use the steps below on your live site. On a staging site, do not use the plugin’s Connect button. Follow Staging sites at the bottom of this page.

Step 1: Open the CookieYes Dashboard
- Log in to your WordPress admin area. (i.e. https://your-domain.com/wp-admin/ and replace your-domain.com with your actual domain)
- In the left sidebar, click CookieYes → Dashboard.
Step 2: Connect to the CookieYes Web App
- On the CookieYes Dashboard page, click one of the buttons labeled Connect to a new account OR Connect to an existing account if you have already signed up.
Step 3: Choose How to Connect
Option A if you have not signed up with CookieYes.com yet, Option B if you have an account already.
Option A – Create a New Account
- Select Create a new account and connect.
- Choose the Free plan (perfect for most sites).
- Click Connect for free.
- Enter your email and create a password.
- Click Sign Up & Connect to CookieYes.
Option B – Connect an Existing CookieYes Account
- Click Connect Your Existing Account.
- Enter your CookieYes email and password.
- Click Log In & Connect to CookieYes.
Step 4: Settings Migration
Option A – “Keep the web app settings for this site”
Keeps the settings on CookieYes.com as is. Keeps it set to the defaults if you haven’t configured anything yet. Choose this to start fresh on CookieYes.com if you haven’t edited the settings yet.
Option B – “Replace web app settings with plugin settings”
Changes the settings on cookieyes.com to match the settings you had set the plugin on the site. Choose this if you want to keep the settings you had set on the legacy plugin.
Staging sites
Do not connect a staging site with the plugin’s Connect button. CookieYes treats that staging URL as a brand-new site and asks for another plan.
Add the staging site under the existing live domain in the CookieYes web app. CookieYes docs: Add a staging site.
1. Add the staging site
- Log in at app.cookieyes.com.
- Go to Organizations & Sites (profile icon in the top right).
- Click the three-dot menu next to the live domain and choose Add staging site.
- Enter the staging URL and click Add.
2. Turn on Staging Mode
Turn on the Staging Mode toggle in the top bar of the dashboard. It switches between the live and staging banner settings.
3. Add the installation code
- Click Get Installation Code.
- Paste that script right after the opening
<head>tag on the staging site. Send us the code if you would like Tiny Frog to paste it. - Leave the plugin’s web app connection off on staging so CookieYes stops asking for a new plan. Do not use Connect and the pasted script at the same time.
Two limits
- Staging only works if the live domain is on a paid plan: Basic, Pro, or Ultimate. It is not available on Free.
- Each domain gets one staging site.
If the live domain is on the Free plan
You can temporarily change the site URL in your CookieYes account to the staging URL, then switch it back to the live domain at launch.
- Log in at app.cookieyes.com and go to Organizations & Sites.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the site and choose Edit Site URL.
- Enter the staging URL and click Save Changes.
- At launch, edit the site URL again and set it back to the live domain. Then connect the live site with Steps 1 to 4 above.
Changing the site URL moves the banner off the previous URL. After each change, the installation code needs to be on the URL you just saved. CookieYes docs: Change the site URL.
