Creating SPF, DMARC, and DKIM Records
Many email service providers such as Google and Yahoo are requiring that companies that send automated emails set up DMARC and SPF records for their domains to prevent email delivery issues after February 2024.
If you are using an email marketing or newsletter service such as Hubspot, Mailchimp, Zoho, Constant Contact, etc. you may have received an email asking that you add their service to your SPF record and that you create a DMARC or DKIM record for your domain. While Tinyfrog does not manage our client's DNS records or email services, we may be able to assist in adding these records to your domain name.
What is a DMARC record?
A DMARC record is a DNS TXT record that tells your email recipient's email service what to do with messages that don't match or authenticate with your SPF or DKIM records. The DMARC record also allows you to specify an email address where you may receive reports about email messages sent from your domain that aren't authenticating.
What is an SPF record?
An SPF record an DNS TXT record used for email sender authentication. Your domain's SPF record will include a list of IP addresses and services that are authorized to send emails on behalf of your domain. If you use a service to send marketing or newsletter emails then that service will need to be listed in your SPF record. Note that your domain should only have one SPF record.
What is a DKIM record?
A DKIM record is a DNS TXT record that stores an encryption key that is used to verify an email's message signature. If an email marketing or newsletter service requires you to set up a DKIM record they will provide the encryption key needed for the record.
What to do when you need help creating these DNS records
Tinyfrog may be able to help you create these records for your domain. You may need to share access to the service where your domain's DNS records are managed (typically, but not always, where your domain is registered) and you will need to provide the details for the records that you are being asked to create. Our team may be able to add the requested records to your domain if you do not have an internal IT that handles these types of requests. While we may be able to help create these DNS records, Tinyfrog does not offer email service or email delivery troubleshooting services.
